What is the appropriate thickness for a granite countertop?
A: The standard thickness for a kitchen countertop is 11/4 inches.
Do I have to call for an appointment or are walk-inns acceptable?
A: No appointment necessary. North Shore Marble and Granite is open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 8pm, Friday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
What is your payment policy?
A: We accept Checks.
Do I have to buy the whole slab?
A: No you do not have to buy a whole slab. The fabricator only uses as much material as it takes to complete the job. In the price is included the cost of transporting the material, making field measurements and templates, cutting, polishing, bringing the pieces to your job site, and fitting them into place. How much material needed is determined by the layout. The fabricator will lay out our job in a way that maximizes the natural beauty of veining and pattern of the stone.
What is the difference between marble and granite?
A: Marble is softer than granite, and is more a porous stone. Because of this, marble can scratch more easily.
Can granite crack?
A: Granite is a very durable material that is extremely abrasion resistant as evidenced by the use of granite floor tile in many buildings such as hotels, theaters, and malls. It would be extremely hard to crack a piece of granite.
Is it OK to put objects on my granite countertops?
A: Unlike other products, granite can handle having hot objects placed on it without worry because it is a stone.
